Cauldron Candles

Items needed:
• wax (left-over candles will work fine)
• candle wicking (wicking from broken candles work fine, too)
• bucket
• sand
• coffee can and pan
• pencils or chop sticks
• small cauldron (optional)

Directions:
1. Put the sand in the bucket and wet with water until it holds its shape when pressed.
2. If you have a small cauldron, press it into the wet sand.
3. If you DON'T have a small cauldron, use your fist to make the impression. With a pencil (eraser end) make three indentations at the bottom of the impression - these will be the cauldron legs.
4. Insert the candle wick into the bottom of the impression. Lay the chop stick over the top of the impression and set the wick against it so it will help support the wick once you pour the wax
5. Put the wax into the coffee can and set the coffee can in a pot of boiling water until the wax melts. DON'T EVER LEAVE THE STOVE. Wax can catch fire!
6. Wearing oven mitts, pour the wax into the impression in the sand.
7. Allow to cool thoroughly. When cool, scoop the candle out with your hand.

Candy-Wrapper Buckets

Tin paint buckets become something else entirely when they’re decoupaged with Halloween-candy wrappers, especially some of the older, prettier ones—like Mary Janes, which have a vintage charm. Colorfully patterned, these buckets can be used to hold anything from crayons to loose change, or use them on Halloween night to pass out treats. Simply apply matte medium (a kind of glue) to the bucket with an inexpensive paintbrush, smooth on wrappers, and then coat the outside with more matte medium. You can buy bags of candy before Halloween just for the wrappers. Or, if you prefer, you and your children can use the wrappers from the candy they collect to make buckets for next Halloween.

Cool Whip Lid Ghost

Materials:

  • Cool Whip Lid or other similar sheer white lid
  • 3 Black Construction Paper circles for eyes and mouth
  • 2 sheer white plastic grocery sacks
  • 2 white pipe cleaners (chenille stem)
  • Scotch tape
  • Glue stick
  • Black yarn
  • Hole punch

Directions:

Glue eyes and mouth on front of lid. Cut off any writing or graphics, and handles from grocery sacks. Lay the sacks on a flat surface. With scissors, shred 2" strips up sacks leaving at least 1" area intact next to the seam.

Glue the pipe cleaner/chenille stem into the seam. Turn lid over on flat surface. Bend and insert the pipe cleaner/seam into the ridge around the bottom 1/2 of the lid. Tape to secure in place.

Repeat with the 2nd sack and stem, and insert in the ridge around the upper 1/2 of the lid. Punch a hole through top of the lid. Thread a length of yarn through the hole appropriate for hanging. Kids may prefer to have a loop on the end of around 1 1/2' length so they could hold on and run with them. They "fly" nicely and appear as though you are being "chased" by a little ghost

Frugal Halloween Spider Candy Dish

Time to get ready for Halloween Fun! Here is a fun project for the kids, and best of all it's really affordable because you can use materials you have around the house. You can give them to your guest at Halloween parties or just display them in your home or office.

Adult supervision for this project is needed.

MATERIALS:
* 1 - tuna fish or cat food can (large or small size)
* Decorative Halloween Wrapping paper or fabric scraps (Solid colors, or decorative is fine)
* Craft Glue & tape
* Pipe cleaners (for the legs)
* Wrapped Halloween candies or a small gift

Note: You may want to use a metal file to remove any metal shavings or sharp edges for safety precautions
PROCEDURE:
Remove the label and wash can thoroughly.

File down any sharp edges around the top of can.

Cover the can with fabric or paper and spot glue around entire can. and glue fabric/paper at top down inside the edge portion of the can.

Cut pipe cleaners in half at even lengths (however long you want the legs) and glue or tape to each side to make legs (Four or Five on each side).

Make bends in the legs, Make a small bend at the top of the leg, then make even a smaller bend at the bottom part of the leg.

This next part is where your imagination needs to come into play.

You can draw, paint, use construction paper or other objects around the house to make the eyes and mouth of the spider.

You can purchase the funny moveable eyes at the craft stores, or you can even use small buttons you may have around the house.

Whatever you do, be creative!

Next is the easy part.

Simply fill the Halloween Spider candy dish with your favorite wrapped candies, or small toy prizes/gifts.

That's It!
