Exotic Fruits-Tamarillo & Cape Gooseberry



Tamarillo

is also called tree tomato, even though it is not a tomato

The fruit is oblong with a dark red color and a thin skin

It can be eaten raw, sprinkled with a little sugar

Scoop out pulp with a spoon

Since the fruit is rich in Pectin, it is perfect for making jam, jelly or chutney



Cape Gooseberry

also named physialis, is a tropical berry

Its color vaires from orange yellow to purple or green

The berries are enclosed in paper thin crinkly husks called Chinese Lanterns

The pulp is juicy, with seeds like gooseberries

The flavor is aromatic

The ripe berries can be eaten raw and mixed into fruit salads
