Bride's or Silver Cake

1 cup butter
2 cups sugar
1 cup milk or water
1 tsp vanilla
3 cups pastry flour
2 tsp baking powder
1/8 tsp salt
4 egg whites stiffly beaten

Cream well fat and sugar
Add water or milk, and vanilla
Mix and sift dry ingredients
Add to first mixture
Then add beaten egg whites
Cutting and folding in carefully
Put in two layer cake pans and bake in moderate oven 350-375 for 25 minutes
Makes a large cake
