| Holiday Hideaways 3/4 cup sugar2/3 cup butter flavored shortening1 egg1 tbsp milk1 tsp vanilla extract1-3/4 cups all purpose flour1 tsp baking powder1/2 tsp baking soda1/2 tsp salt2 jars (10 oz each) Maraschino cherries, well drained10 ounces white candy coating, divided4 tbsp butter flavored shortening, divided8 ounces dark chocolate candy coatingFinely chopped pecans In a mixing bowl, cream sugar and shortening Add egg, milk and vanillaCombine dry ingredients, gradually add to the creamed mixture and mix wellForm 2 teaspoonfuls of dough into a ballFlatten ball and place a cherry in the centerRoll dough around cherryRepeating with remaining dough and cherriesPlace balls 2 inch apart on ungreased baking sheets Bake at 350 for 10 to 12 minutes or until set and the edges are lightly brownedCool 1 minute before removing to wire racks to cool completelyGrate 2 oz white candy coating, set aside Melt remaining white coating with 2 tbsp shorteningMelt dark coating with remaining shorteningDip half the cookies into white coatingPlace on waxed paperSprinkle with pecansDip the remaining cookies in dark coatingPlace on waxed paperSprinkle with grated white coatingStore in a covered container in the refrigeratorYield about 4-1/2 dozen | |
