Hermits

1/2 cup shortening

1 egg

2-1/4 cups flour

1/2 cup raisins

1/4 tsp nutmeg

1/4 tsp mace

3/4 cup sugar

8 tbsp milk

2 tsp baking powder

1/2 tsp cinnamon

1/4 tsp salt

1/4 tsp cloves

Cream shortening; add sugar, raisins, egg well beaten and milk

Mix and sift dry ingredients and add to first mixture

Drop from spoon, leaving about 2 inches between each

Bake 15 minutes in hot oven 400F

Makes 20 cookies
