| Sukiyaki 2lb boneless sirloin steak, sliced 1/8 inch thick2 onions2 bunches green onions12 large fresh mushrooms1 can (5oz) bamboo shoots, drained1/2 lb fresh spinach1/2 small head cabbage1 can (8-3/4oz) shirataki, drained (optional)3/4 cup shoyu or soy sauce2 tbsp sugar2 beef-bouillon cubes, dissolved in 1-1/2 cups boiling water1 tsp monosodium glutamate1/4 lb beef suet or shorteningCooked white riceCut beef into 2 inch stripsPrepare vegetables, Peel onions, and slice very thinDiagonally slice green onions and tops into 1 inch piecesSlice mushrooms and bamboo shoot 1/4 inch thickCut spinach in 1 inch stripsShred cabbageArrange all these ingredients and the shirataki attractively on a large serving platterIn small saucepan, combine shoyu or soy sauce, sugar, bouillon, and monosodium glutamate; heat, stirring until sugar is dissolvedPreheat electric skillet to 350FFry suet in skillet to lubricate pan; removeAdd onion and green onion slices; sauté, stirring occasionally, until goldenAdd remaining vegetables and shiratakiCover with beef strips, overlapping if necessaryPour on sauce mixture, simmer, uncovered, 10 minutesTurn meat; simmer just until vegetables are tender about 5 minutesServe at once, with hot riceMakes 6 servings | |
