Greeting Card Boxes

Good Things come in small packages
But what happends when you don't have an attractive box for that special gift of earrings, tie tack, You make one.

Metallic Christmas cards make brilliant little boxes.
tied with gold or silver cords, they look striking hanging on a Christmas tree, For other seasons they can be mounted on wires which are wrapped with florist tape and incorporated into a floral arrangement as part of an attractive centerpiece for the table or mantel.

Supplies:
Stiff, cardboard-type card and a pair of scissors

If the gift is for Christmas a Christmas Card would be effective
For a birthday or other occasion, a similar card might be appropriate

Most boxes will be under 2 inches when finished.
Cut card in half along fold lines separating colorful designed front half from white or solid color back
When folding box halves keep the design on the outside and all printed verses inside.
The front of the card will make the top of the box the back, and bottom

Top Half
Fold designed piece of card into triangle with sides even
Cut off bottom piece extending beyond triangle
When card is unfolded, it will form a perfect square
Fold the square into a triangle again, then fold that triangle into another triangle
Open card into square
Fold point A of card to point E in center and crease.
Do the same with points B, C, and D. Now you have a smaller square with triangles folded inward, all points touching in the center

Take one folded edge and fold over once more to center, crease and unfold.
Do the same with other three folded edges.
Open card into original square again and you will find it criss-crossed with fold lines forming tiny squares
With point A towards you, cut along vertical creased lines on either side of point A, two squares deep. Turn square around and with point C facing you, cut along the creased lines in same manner, two squares deep. Now the card is ready to be folded into top half of box

With Point B facing you, fold point B into center, point E. Fold edge in again on the folded lines, crease and leave this fold standing upright. Do the same with opposite side, Folding D into center.
Take four cut, loose points and fold at right angles to the standing folded edges, forming box figures. To hold these sides, take extended point A and fold up and over loose sides, Creasing firmly at inside bottom edge of box

Repeat with point C. Points A and C will meet in center of bottom of box. Be sure the creases are sharp, as they will hold box in shape. Now you have the top completed.

Bottom Half:
The white or solid color should be on the outside, any printing on inside. Fold card into first triangle, as you did with top, cutting off any excess to form a perfect square
Then fold it once more into the smaller triangle
This next step is the only different one. Keeping the square folded in triangles, trim 1/8 inch off open edges.
this makes square slightly smaller than fist square, thus forms bottom of box for top to fit over. Complete bottom half same as for top
Put a little cotton or tissue paper into bottom half and you have a box just waiting for that special, tiny gift.
