Making Pomanders

A bit messy and sticky -- Instant appeal for most kids!---

making pomanders with firm apples, oranges, lemons, or limes is a holiday must. Start with a shallow bowl, a turkey skewer,
Whole Cloves,
Powdered Cloves
Ground Cinnamon,
Thin Ribbon
And a few straight pins for securing it.

Keep wet towels nearby to clean sticky hands from time to time.
Hold the orange over the bowl and using the turkey skewer, poke holes in the fruit in a pattern.
Stick cloves into the holes. The Entire surface does not need to be covered. When finished, Roll the pomander in a mix of ground Cinnamon and Cloves.
Let rest in the spicy mixture until the pomander dries out; then tie with a ribbon and hang.
Pomanders can last for years if kept in a dry place.
