Autumn's Here!
By Margaret T. Crawford 1962
Gone the ribboned field of green corn and golden grain, To the southland have flown robins and wild geese again.
'Neath withered cornstalks yellow pumpkins now we see, And heaps of red-cheeked apples harvested from orchard trees.
Wisps of smoke curl and rise from chimney tops so tall, Purple shadows descend early o'er wooded hill and garden wall.
Where violets but yesterday nodded shy little heads, Goldenrod and blue aster are blooming in their stead.
Trees, weary of green dress, have turned to brilliant hues; Warm, soft breezes now are brisk, whistling and whirling in great ado!
Autumn with its clear, crisp air and sunsets of coppery hue, Has gently pushed away summer to linger till winter is due.
