Holiday Fruitcake Cookies

4 c sifted flour

1 tsp baking soda

1 tsp salt

1 c shortening

2 c brown sugar, firmly packed

2 eggs, beaten

2/3 c buttermilk

1 c chopped pecans

1 c candied cherries, cut in quarters

2 c cut-up dates

1 c candied fruits and peels Red or green Candied Cherries (for tops)

Sift together flour, soda and salt

Cream shortening add brown sugar and eggs, beat until light and fluffy

Add buttermilk and sifted dry ingredients, and then fold in nuts, cherries, dates and candied fruits

Chill dough

Drop dough by teaspoonfuls on lightly greased baking sheet

Bake at 375F for 8 to 10 minutes

Makes 8 dozen
