Cocoa BonBon With Shiney Peppermint Glaze




2 c sifted flour

1/2 tsp baking powder

1/2 tsp salt

1/2 c butter or margarine

1/2 c sugar

1 egg

1 square unsweetened chocolate, melted

1 tsp vanilla

Peppermint Glaze (recipe follows)

Silver dragees, nuts or canned frosting (for decorations)



Sift together flour, baking powder and salt

Cream butter and sugar together until light and fluffy

Beat in egg, melted chocolate and vanilla

Stir in flour mixture, a third at a time, blending well.

Dough will be stiff

Roll rounded teaspoonfuls of dough, one a time, into balls between hands

Place balls on lightly greased baking sheet

Bake 350 for12 minutes



Cool completely

To Glaze cookies, arrange on waxed paper

Spoon peppermint glaze over to cover cookies completely

Spoon a second coating over cookies

Trim with silver dragee, nuts or frostings from pressurized cans

Makes about 31



Peppermint Glaze

3 c sifted confectioner’s sugar

2 to 3 tbsp water

1/4 tsp red food color

1/4 tsp peppermint extract

Combine all ingredients and beat until smooth

The glaze should be thin enough to pour from a spoon

If it gets too thick while working with add a few drops of water and beat until smooth

Makes about 1 cup

Vanilla Glaze:

Omit peppermint extract and red food color

Add 1/2 tsp vanilla and make glaze as directed
