| Tissue Paper Roses and Butterflies Giant tissue paper flowers and a hovering butterfly make a gay splash of color on a mirror or trayThey also make nice decorations for a dinner of buffet table and a grill work room divider is a fine trellis background for several flowers Roses Fold a 20 x 30 inch sheet of tissue paper (shaded tissue paper is especially pretty) in thirds Length-wise.Then in fifths crosswise to make a pad (15 thicknesses) of paper measuring 6 x 6-1/2 inchesMake Rose Petal pattern lay out a piece of paper and make a grid on it each square equals 1/2 inch. Draw into each square that portion of design which appears in corresponding square on your grid. Using rose petal pattern, Cut through all thicknesses of paper at once. Working with one petal at a time, Roll petal edges around a pencil (a hexagonal-shaped pencil works better than a round one) on a diagonal,Gently push rolled portion together ( with paper still on pencil) accordion style.Slide pencil out and spread creases slightlyWhen both sides of petal edge are rolled and creased, gently cup petal. Prepare 12 to 15 petals for each rose For center portion of rose, fold a 10-inch square of tissue paper diagonally across center.Holding center point of triangle, bring one point to center point by making soft gathers as you go,Do second point in similar manner only gather second point around first to make a folded petal center Put a dab of glue on bottom point of rose petalCup petal closely around center portion, twisting it tightly at bottomAttach a second petal, overlapping first, then a third petal overlapping edges of other two to finish first row of petals around center.Continue adding petals, overlaping edges until rose is desired sizeWrap end of a pipe cleaner tightly around base of petals for a stemCover stem with floral tape Leaves Cut two 5-inch squares of green tissue paperMix a half-and-half solution of white glue and waterGlue two squares togetherEnlarge leaf pattern same as rose pattern then cut leaves from a 5-inch folded sheet of paperOpen leaf pattern and trace around it on tissue paper.Cut out leaf cluster.Glue covered flower wire on back center of each leaf, twist the three wires together and wrap stem with floral tape, beginning at joint of wires. Butterfly Draw and enlarge a pattern of a butterfly, then cut outDraw around outline on a square of tissue paper a little larger then butterflyUse black or colored felt-tip marker to draw in veins and other markings on tissue butterflyCut a second square of tissue paper same size as that on which butterfly is drawnUsing a half-and-half solution of white glue and water, glue plain tissue square to a sheet of waxed paper.Smooth out wrinkles with fingers, rubbing from center of tissue to outer edgesBrush a coat of glue-water mixture on top side of tissue squareLay butterfly square down on it, line up edges and again smooth out wrinklesBrush a coat of glue-water mix on top side of butterfly tissueWhen dry, place between two sheets of brown wrapping paper and press with warm iron to fuse waxed paper and two tissue layers together.Cut out butterflyTwist a body of black chenille stickGlue to bodyBlack plastic broom or brush straws make fine antennasSequins can be used for shiny eyes. | |
