Date Bread My Mother’s

She got From Mrs. Gilbert Logan Holcombe Wis.



½ cup sugar

1 tbsp shortening

1 egg

1 cup dates

1 cup hot water

1 ½ cups flour, level cups

1 tsp baking powder

1 tsp soda

1 tsp vanilla

¼ tsp salt

Cut the dates in very small pieces and soak in the hot water

Until mixture is lukewarm

Mix adding to the other ingredients

Mix ingredients in order that it is written

Bake in loaf tin

Bake at 350F till done

If top of loaf breaks open when baked, try adding a little less flour
