| On a Crisp Autumn Day
by William Knowles 1962
As evening shadows gently fall On a crisp October day, We gaze with open wonder On nature's glorious display.
The leaves have changed their color Now that summer's bid goodbye, And the beauty of a rainbow Can be seen through forest high.
It's been man's fond ambition To portray in colors bright, The glory of Dame Nature On a crisp October night.
Yet paint and brush or even words And all the skill that's good, Can never paint the beauty Of an autumn-tinted wood.
In spring we watched the tender leaves Adorn the bare hillside, And by the time the summer came We gloried in their pride.
Now as the evening shadows fall We see their glory fade, But nothing can erase the thought And imprint they have made.
In time November's surly blast Will lay our forest bare, And bleak December will ensue To scatter what was there.
But spring again will usher in A new enchanting morn, And once again the leaves will come Our forest to adorn. | |
