Cocoa Cookie Barn


1-1/3c shortening

2 c sugar

2 eggs

4-2/3 c flour

2 tsp baking powder

1 tsp baking soda

1 tsp salt

1/2 c cocoa

1/2 c milk



Cream shortening and sugar until light and fluffy, add eggs and beat well

Sift together dry ingredients, add alternately with milk to creamed mixture, mixing well. Chill dough

Roll out small amount of dough at a time 1/8" thick on lightly floured pastry cloth

Cut desired shapes (barn parts)

Bake on greased baking sheet in slow oven 325F for 10 to 15 minutes



White Decorating Frosting

Combine

2 egg whites

1-1/2 c sugar

1/3 c water

2 tsp light corn syrup

1/8 tsp salt in top of double boiler

Beat 1 minute

Cook over boiling water, beating constantly, until mixture stands in stiff peaks

Remove from heat

Transfer to mixing bowl

Beat until smooth

Use at once



Red Decorating Frosting

Beat together

4 c confectioner’s sugar

1/8 tsp salt

2-1/2 tsp red food color

6 drops yellow food color and

4-1/2 to 5 tbsp milk

Until of stiff spreading consistency



Note: you can draw features in the dough before it’s baked with a toothpick to give it features, that your not going to cover with icing



Use red frosting for barn sides, using a small spatula to make ridges for the boards



Use white for the roof

And a ice cream cone for the silo, cover with icing
