SugarPlum Loaf



3/4 cup scalded milk

1/2 cup shortening

1/2 cup sugar

2 eggs

1 cake compressed yeast

2 tablespoons lukewarm water

5 cups sifted enriched flour

1 teaspoon salt

1/2 cup seedless raisins

1/2 cup chopped walnuts

1/2 chopped citron any Citrus

1/2 cup chopped candied cherries



Cool scalded milk to Luke warm

Cream together shortening and sugar

Beat eggs and add

Dissolve yeast in Luke warm water

Add with milk to creamed mixture.

Add 1 cup flour and mix well

Cover and let rise in warm place until doubled

Add salt, raisins chopped nuts, citron and cherries.

Gradually add remaining flour and knead on lightly floured board until thoroughly mixed.

Place in greased round pan 8 inches in diameter and 3 inches high.

Cover and let rise in warm place until doubled in size

Bake in moderate oven 350F for 1 hour and 15 minutes

Remove from pan and cool on wire rack

If desired spread with confectioners sugar icing

Makes 1 loaf
