Onion Bacon Bread




3/4 cup chopped onion

1/2 cup diced uncooked bacon

1 clove garlic, minced

1/4 cup warm water

1 package dry yeast

4 to 4-1/2 cups flour, divided

1 cup warm milk

2 tablespoons sugar

1/4 teaspoon salt





Grease a 9 x 5 inch loaf pan



Sauté bacon, onion and garlic until golden.

Dissolve yeast in warm water

Add 2 cups flour, milk, sugar and salt.

Beat until well-blended.

Stir in undrained onion -bacon mixture.

Add enough additional flour to make soft dough.

Knead well.

Let rise in a warm place until doubled in bulk.

Punch down, shape into a loaf.

Place in prepared loaf pan

Cover and let rise until doubled, about 1 hour

Preheat oven to 375 degrees

Bake 45 minutes or until done

Makes one loaf
